On October 29th, 2015 at the Universidad Gabriela Mistral (Chile) it was signed the agreement to create the Latin American Network of Medieval Studies. This agreement includes the participation of medievalists from Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Costa Rica and Peru.

The network is the result of the efforts started several years ago, which aimed at bringing the research in Medieval History area to those countries. It intends to set common goals for a network of Latin American historians, to increase the visibility of Latin American historiography in the field of medieval studies as well as to increase the collaboration with centers and / or institutes of medieval studies from Europe and North-Americans.

The network brings together medievalists from the Center of  Estudios Medievales de la Universidad Gabriela Mistral; the Medieval Studies Laboratory (Laboratório de Estudos Medievais -LEME), specially the nuclei of the University of São Paulo, the State University of Campinas, the Federal University of Minas Gerais, the Federal University of São Paulo, the Federal Southern Border University, the Federal University of Triangulo Mineiro, the University of Brasilia, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, the Universidad de Buenos Aires, the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Scientific and Technical (CONICET), the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Peru) and the National University of Costa Rica.

The first Latin American Network of Medieval Studies workshop will take place in San José (Costa Rica) in the second half of 2016.
