The first Brazilian Master´s and Doctorate Astronomy Program started out in 1973 resulted by the initiative of a group of researchers newly trained overseas.

Traditionally has been the postgraduate course to assemble the largest number of students (approximately 60) and Professors (approx. 30), and has been responsible for training the most of the professional in astronomy within the country.

The Program is interlined to the Universidade de Sao Paulo - USP academic environment from where we accept entrants mostly graduated in physics and mathematics so we exchange experiences in teaching and survey management.

Our researchers work in partnership with other astronomy institutions throughout Brazil, with which we exchange experiences besides host their students.

We also maintain an active international collaboration so we constantly evaluate and pursue prospects for the future. Both professors and students seek to participate actively in international events where They might present and discuss their latest works.
