The Graduate Program in Basic and Applied Immunology of the Ribeirão Preto Medicinal  School is a trans-departmental, multidisciplinary, translational program. Its goal is to educate in order to elucidate and understand the immunological mechanisms that regulate homeostasis in health and underlie the physiopathology of diseases.

The Program is led by 27 faculty representing many areas of interest; many are fellows of Brazil’s National Science and Technology Council and receive significant funding awards from national (state and federal) and international agencies. The faculty maintains national and international scientific collaborations.

The student body consists of Master's and Doctoral students and also undergraduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The Master’s program is an important formative stage for the Doctoral program. Over the past 25 years the program has trained 155 PhDs and 230 MScs. Most of our graduates are engaged as staff or post-doctoral fellows in teaching and research in public institutions, while others are employed by technological innovation companies.

The program has consolidated infrastructure for research, including facilities for rearing and maintaining animals engineered for molecules that participate in the immune response, thus enabling the undertaking of innovative research projects and enhancing its role in training of scientists; it also provides animals for different national institutions.

The consolidation and importance of our program is attested to by its consistent top ranking in the triannual evaluation program headed by the Brazilian Ministry of Education.
