The main object of the Graduate Program in Applied Economics is to give students knowledge to work with applied economics. The program began in 2004 and is sponsored by the Brazilian funding agencies (CNPq, CAPES and FAPESP) which give each year some scholarships to our students.

Our two major research lines are as follows:

1) Applied Microeconomics: in this research line, the student will study applications of applied microeconomic models and concepts, analyzing the relevant issues according to individual agents and public policies. Among the major topics here one can find subjects such as Economics of Education, Income Inequality, Industrial Organization, Economics of Innovation and Economics of Crime.

2) Macroeconomics and Development Economics: in this research line, the student will carry out studies that apply macroeconomic concepts and models in an empirical way, aiming at understanding the main drivers of economic development in a macro level, as well as regional and local levels. Among the major topics here one can find subject such as Macroeconomics, Development Economics, International Macroeconomics, Public Sector Economics and Regional Economic Development.
