The Programa de Pós-Graduação em Integração da América Latina (Postgraduate Program on the Integration of Latin America) - PROLAM/USP began its activities in 1998. It is a theme program based on interdisciplinarity involving different schools. It is composed by professors of the University of São Paulo who develop activities in research, teaching and extended studies on theoretical and practical aspects of the various dimensions of Latin America’s integration processes.
The methodological guidelines, outlined by the Program’s Graduate Commission, are defined around three investigation axis in the Applied Human and Social Sciences area: (a) Society, Economy and the State; (b) International Relations and Political Practices; (c) Communication and Culture.
The Program aims at reaching excellence in all lines of research, which, by their turn, are composed by three research projects:
1. Society, Economy and the State – Public policies in the field of labor, education and health, and urban planning, metropolization and urban management in Latin America;
2. International relations and political practices – political relations and practices in Latin America and international relations.
3. Communication and Culture - Communication in Latin America, and artistic production and cultural criticism in Latin America.
PROLAM/USP’s mission is to produce knowledge about Latin America.
