The Graduate Program in Oceanography (PPGO) is linked to the IOUSP and offers MSc and PhD courses. The program is the result of the merger of three programs offered until 2010 ( Biological Oceanography , Chemical and Geological Oceanography and Physical Oceanography ) and inherits the history and tradition of over 40 years of post-graduate courses at IOUSP, with more than 700 dissertations or thesis (approx . 500 MSc and 260 PhD). The PPGO stands for diversity of research areas with qualified supervisors in different areas of oceanography .
The program has four areas of concentration:
• Biological Oceanography
• Physical Oceanography
• Chemical Oceanography
• Geological Oceanography
One goal of PPGO is to train specialists in the analysis of temporal and spatial variations of physical, chemical, geological and biological processes in coastal and ocean environments in the context of its research areas. This thematic diversity enables the interaction between different areas of concentration and the contact and collaboration with researchers from other institutes of USP and other institutions in Brazil and abroad.
