The Post-Graduate Program in Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo began in 1973 and until August 4, 2014 had conferred 96 titles of Masters of Science (MSc) and 143 titles of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD). The main objective of the program is to train researchers in applied neuroscience, able to use scientific methodology to generate knowledge particularly on issues and peculiarities of the Brazilian population, while contributing to the expansion of knowledge on general neurosciences.
The areas of interest of our research are concentrated on epidemiological population studies, investigations of new diagnostic methods, observational studies on clinical, neuropathological and molecular biological characterization of neurological diseases, functional studies with modeling in vitro and in vivo for analysis of pathophysiological mechanisms by genomic approaches and systems biology, with emphasis on neuroregeneration, neuroplasticity and neuro-oncology, clinical trials, research into new neurosurgical techniques including stereotactic methods.
The program has multidisciplinary characteristics and is open to medical and non-medical professionals. The MSc degree is suitable for those who still do not have experience in scientific research. The PhD degree is suitable for those whose project or research is well defined and who already have experience in scientific research.
