The graduate studies in Geophysics has a diversity of research lines covering from Global Tectonics to Applied Geophysical studies. In "Geophysics and Global Tectonics" we study the Earth's interior by integrating geological, geophysical and geochemical data to characterize the structure of the crust and mantle, their rheological behavior and spacial-temporal evolution, to understand the lithosphere dynamics. It is mainly focused on the South American plate. The studies carried out in "Applied Geophysics" are important for professional training, given the increasing demand for natural resources (minerals, underground water, oil and gas) and the modern society's concern to preserve and manage these resources.

This line of research applies various geophysical exploration methods for solving new problems, especially in the shallow layers of the Earth's crust. There is also interest in developments of new data analysis tools for land, air and space, new techniques and applications of conventional exploration methodologies, and technical improvement of traditional equipment. The main Applied Geophysics topics are: joint inversion of different geophysical data, studies of archeological sites, underground contamination, aquifers and impact structures. Our course is graded 6 (from a maximum of 7) by CAPES (Ministry of Education) which evaluates all graduate courses in Brazil.
