The Graduate Program of Entomology of the Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto of the Universidade de São Paulo (FFCLRP/USP), was created in 1980 and attends majors from various branches of the Life Sciences, including Biology, Agronomy, Animal Science and related subjects. Our mission is to provide a prime education and offer the conditions for the study of Hexapoda, the most diverse group of living beings.
The program is organized so that a variety of subjects of Entomology can be investigated, comprising the understanding of the general patterns of diversity and evolution of insects, as well as the genetic, behavioral and ecological aspects of insect diversity. Students of the Entomology Program have both mandatory and facultative courses to be selected, allowing for choices to be made about the best study plan for academic and scholar development of each student.
The four major research lines in the Program are the following: (a) Biology and genetics of bees, and their parasites; (b) Ecology, evolution and taxonomy; and (c) Ecology of insect-plant interactions; and (d) Biological control, integrated pest management, and radioentomology.
