The PPGSHS has the accreditation of 27 professor for Masters and PhD, and has the following research laboratories: Center for Study and Research on Solid Waste, Integrated Center for Watershed, Hydraulics, Computational Hydraulics, Microsensors, Advanced Treatment and Reuse of Water, Sanitation, and Biological Processes. This program develops multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research with focus on quality and quantity of water resources, disposal and treatment of solid waste, wastewater treatment, water treatment, supply, environmental biotechnology and air pollution control.
The broad spectrum of topics covered in PPGSHS has fostered the participation of graduates from different academic backgrounds such as engineers (civil, sanitary, electrical, mechanical, chemical and agricultural), agronomists, physicists, chemists, mathematicians, biologists and ecologists. The program has contributed effectively to the training of human resources for research and teaching and receives students from different states of Brazil, besides those from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, United States, France, Libya, Mozambique, Pakistan and Portugal. In order to increase the participation of foreign students in the program, the examinations in the selection process are applied in the Embassies of Brazil located in the countries of origin of applicants.
