The graduate program in Ecology at University of São Paulo (PPGE-USP) was created in 1982 and the PhD program began in 1993. The PPGE-USP is one of top graduate programs in the biodiversity in Brazil. A wide range of research programs characterizes the PPGE-USP, including evolutionary ecology and ecosystem ecology and applied ecology in both terrestrial and aquatic environments. Since its foundation, 342 students graduated at PPGE-USP (270 MSc students and 137 PhD students, 65 students getting both degrees at the program).
The main aim of PPGE-USP is the formation of graduate students in ecology with a broad view of the different levels of organization of the biodiversity. We expect to provide to our students the skills they will need to develop high-level scientific research. We also provide a broad set of opportunities for the discussion of scientific results in our university and abroad.
The PPGE-USP stands out from the pool of Brazilian graduate programs because our former students are professionals working in a wide range of areas, varying from academic research to applied topics in conservation biology.
