The main goal of the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism of University of São Paulo at São Carlos is to advance the education of teachers, researchers, and professionals. The program emphasizes critical theoretical and historiographical perspectives and innovative technological and planning prospects.

The program has regularly offered M.Sc. and Ph.D. courses in Architecture and Urbanism since 1971 and 2003, respectively. The program has contributed to the advancement of research in Brazil. The field of Theory and History of Architecture and Urbanism promotes studies on Brazilian modernist architecture and urban planning in light of their achievements (the most celebrated ones as well as those unexplored in historiography), their social and aesthetic compromises, their inclusion in the cultural life of the country, and their connections to aspects of international movements.

As for research in Architecture, Urban Planning and Technology, the program encourages studies related to the development of new materials and construction systems and alternative materials intended for the production of social housing, incorporating aspects of public management from an economic, social, and environmental perspective.
