The Graduate Program at FAUUSP (Masters, 1971 and Doctorate, 1980), is one of the oldest in the country.  Headquartered in a nineteenth-century mansion, in the heart of the city of São Paulo, the major metropolis of South America, this area has been the stage of socio-spatial tensions and transformations.

The Program aims at challenging researchers and urban professionals to participate in Brazilian social issues as citizens, a role inherent to the duties of a public university. The Program’s multidisciplinary character is part of its historical commitment to all academic endeavors linked to Architecture and Urban Studies. This encompassing approach identifies the program itself.

A center of excellence in the field, the Program is linked to three school departments and currently offers eight concentration areas: Technology & Architecture; History & Foundations of Architecture and Urbanism; Design & Architecture; Landscape & Environment; Design, Space, & Culture; Habitat; Architectural Design; and Urban & Regional  Planning. With more than one hundred registered advisors and almost five hundred students, the Program lives up to the challenges  – marked by scale, centrality, and diversity – that make up its identity.

Research is the Program’s structuring and essential activity, which promotes innovation in the various fields of knowledge.
